Home Cost & Cover

Calculator Methodology

Home Cost & Cover calculators are educational planning tools. They produce ranges rather than false precision and never replace property inspection, local bids, licensed advice or the actual insurance policy.

Home-improvement calculations

A calculation starts with a planning unit such as area, quantity or base project scope. User selections may adjust for finish level, complexity, location and contingency. Results can omit concealed conditions, design, financing, temporary accommodation, unusual access, code upgrades or rapidly changing local prices unless explicitly included.

Insurance calculations

Coverage tools illustrate arithmetic using values entered by the user. They do not predict underwriting, premium, eligibility, settlement or whether a loss is covered. Policy definitions, exclusions, endorsements, limits, sublimits, deductibles and state law control.

Data and review

We prioritize government agencies, regulators, standards organizations and clearly identified industry references. National information is used for context; local building departments, state insurance regulators, utilities, licensed professionals, written bids and current policy forms are required for final decisions. Guides are reviewed when source information or methodology materially changes.

Using a result

  1. Save the inputs and date.
  2. Test low, expected and high scenarios.
  3. Replace assumptions with measurements, documents and written local information.
  4. Obtain multiple comparable proposals.
  5. For insurance, review the complete policy with a licensed professional.
